This year’s festivities are especially meaningful as Thomasville and Thomas County celebrate their Bicentennial. Pebble Hill marked its own Bicentennial last year, further highlighting its deep roots in the region’s history. Founder Thomas Jefferson Johnson played a pivotal role in the area’s development, having co-sponsored the 1825 Georgia legislative bill that established Thomas and Lowndes Counties.
The Rose Festival, a cherished Thomasville tradition since 1922, provides the perfect backdrop for visitors to experience the beauty and history of Pebble Hill Plantation.
As part of the city and county’s Bicentennial observances, Pebble Hill has a very special exhibit in the Elisabeth Ireland Poe Gallery, chronicling the history of Pebble Hill and the contributions made to the community by the Hanna and Ireland families who owned Pebble Hill from 1896 to 1978.
